Bukidnon is a province in the Philippines located in the Northern Mindanao Region. The name “Bukidnon” means “highlander” or “mountain dweller” as this is surrounded by mountains and plateau. Mount Dulang-dulang, the second highest mountain in the country is found here. The 4th, 5th, 8th, 17th and 30th highest mountains in the country respectively, are also found here.

 

HOW TO GET HERE:

By sea—2GO, Lite Ferries, and a number of shipping lines have regular trips to Cagayan de Oro City(CDO). From the port, take a motorcyle, cub, or Jeepney to the Agora Bus Terminal and then you can ride a Bus to get there.

By air-From Laguindingan Airport, it is usually take an hour going to Cagayan de Oro City. Fare is P200 from the airport to the Agora Bus Terminal.

You can also take a Bus if you are coming from Davao. It will take little less than 4 hrs to the capital city of Malaybalay. Go to Ecoland terminal in Davao to catch a bus.

 

Bukidnon also is where the Del Monte Pineapple fields is located. It is one of the largest pineapple plantations in the world and the biggest in the Far East. Situated on plateaus with elevations ranging from 1,600 to 2,200 feet, the pineapple plantation covers an area of 23,000 hectares. This is considered one of the attractions in Bukidnon.

HOW TO GET THERE

When you are coming from Cagayan de Oro, you can take a van going to Camp Philips. It’s usually a 35 minutes ride. Fare is P160-P240. When you are in Camp Philips, you should take the opportunity to visit Dahilayan Adventure Park. This is for a breath taking rides and adrenaline junkies. This park is more than just a place to relax but also destination for adventure seekers as it offers a wide range of exciting outdoor rides and activities. You can try Forest Luge, Buggy trail Adventure, ATV, Treetop Adventure, Zorbit, Barrel Train, Bumper Train, Bumber boat, Hanging bridge, and a lot more. You can also try zip lines and see through lush greenery of pinetrees and bushes. Thier zip line is one of longest dual zipline in Asia.

You can also visit Kampo Juan which is also located in Manolo Fortich which you can take a short habal-habal trip. It was name after the owner of the place- Dr. Juan Acosta. An agriculturist and scientist, whos is expert in horticulture and plant breeding. The place is actually a demo farm for a variety of plants, with some Anicycling rides where you experienced a bicycle ride in the air. They also have Rappelling and Hanging bridge for andrenaline junkies.

 

The hike in Mt. Dulang-dulang is one of the best hike you make. It is dubbed as “D2” by Filipino Mountainers. The second highest mountain in the country. It can be accessed through Brgy. Songco,Lantapan, Bukidnon. Known for its long trek and its peaks that have the most beautiful view of landscapes, beginning from the trails of trees and grasslands and as it transcends into its thick and deep jungles. The jungle is covered with moss and clouds. Its moss gives it this ancient and historic look. The trees found there spiral all over with labyrinthine and intricate branches. Once you find your way out of the thick jungle during a clearing at the peak, brace yourself for a breathtaking view of the whole of the Kitanglad range and including a sight of Mt. Apo. You should coordinate with the locals like DENR/PASU before starting your trek. As part of tradition, Datu Makapukaw will perform a ritual to ensure the safety of the climbers. The ritual costs P1,000 and another P800 for the 3 sacrificial chicken. Porter costs P600 per day. To witness the sea of clouds you should start to ascend 1 hour before sunrise to witness the sea of clouds.

If you want to have more mountain hiking adventure, and you want to challenge your self as a mountainer or just an adventure seeker, you can explore Mt. Kitanglad to Mt. Dulang-dulang traverse. This is a 3 days of climb. This hike is one of the five most challenging climbs in the country.

 There is also a new attraction in Bukidnon, which is the “Paminahawa Ridge” in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon. You are going to enjoy the amazing and breathtaking view of the different ridges of nearby mountains. You will definitely enjoy the stunning and scennic view. You can only do it in a day hike so you don’t have to worry bringing more baggages in your hike. You can start your hike at around 3AM so that you can reach in the sunrise since the trek would take you two hours. The fee is 300.00 pesos which includes all of the expenses (local guide, sitio and barangay payment). If you want to take a side trip to CEDAR (Center for Ecological Development and Recreation) they require a fee of 100.00 pesos per head and 25.00 pesos/head for the motorcycle transfer from Ant Farm to CEDAR.
